Wet bar
A sink and cabinets, sometimes with a small refrigerator, set against a family room or theater wall. The sink needs a drain and a water supply, which are inspected like any plumbing.

Millcreek Basement Finishing builds wet bars, kitchenettes and full kitchens in basements, for entertaining, family living or an apartment. The words describe how much cooking the room does, and that decides how much of the basement’s plumbing, electrical and mechanical plan has to change.
We work in Millcreek and in nearby Holladay and Cottonwood Heights. A kitchen for the household and a kitchen for a separate unit are different projects with different paperwork. Estimates for both are free.

A wet bar plus a cooking appliance and room for a full-size refrigerator. Cooking brings a question about ventilation, which belongs on the mechanical plan that the city reviews.
Two-sided counters, a range and full-size appliances. A kitchen this complete serves a household, and when it serves a separate tenant it is part of the apartment project.
Millcreek’s plumbing plan shows every fixture, so a sink and a dishwasher both appear on it, and the plumbing is inspected. Where the drain lines run depends on the basement and is not something this page describes. Counter height and cabinet choices are ordinary design decisions.
The mechanical plan lists exhaust fan locations and combustion air, and the electrical plan lists lights, switches and outlets. Gas lines, range hoods and the electrical loads of cooking appliances are settled on those plans and not here.
Millcreek’s median home value is $627,200, and bars and kitchens are projects where owners choose finishes and layout. The labels wet bar, kitchenette and full kitchen are working terms, not code definitions we are quoting.
If the kitchen is meant for someone else to live with, it belongs to the apartment route, which starts with an ADU application to Planning and Zoning. Ask Planning and Zoning how Millcreek treats a second kitchen in your house before you commit to a layout.
A wet bar, a kitchenette and a full kitchen sit at very different points on the scale, and the drain and power runs, cabinets and counters move it further. A written estimate follows a visit.
No. A kitchen can serve the household. A separate unit with its own kitchen is an accessory dwelling unit, and Millcreek requires an ADU application before the building permit.
Millcreek requires a permit for all construction, with an exception for cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work. A wet bar with new plumbing and wiring goes beyond that exception.
It can be planned, and the mechanical and electrical plans show how. We do not state the venting or power requirements here, because they are settled on the plans.
A kitchen can stand alone or sit inside a unit. The basement apartment page covers the second case, the basement home theater page covers a bar beside a media room, and the home page lists the rest of what Millcreek Basement Finishing does.
Say whether you want a wet bar, a kitchenette or a full kitchen, where the water and drains are now, and whether anyone besides your household will use it. We'll get back to you soon with an estimate or any questions we have. Estimates are free and there's no obligation.
